Carbs, carbs and less carbs!

As this is the start of a new year, I thought that I’d write about a subject that is maybe on some of our minds at this time. Many of us may have over- consumed during the past few weeks and that would have meant an increase in our carbohydrates. Now I am not a dietician nor am I a qualified nutritionist, but I am someone who has been through a journey that meant I had to look at my carb intake. It wasn’t an easy journey at all. In no way would I try to tell anyone what to do and this just my personal experience that I wanted to share with you.

I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes in October 2023. I knew that I needed to lose weight which would hopefully bring my sugar levels down, but I had tried counting calories, reducing fat intake and other diets before but none had really worked for long. I came across an article that looked at the effectiveness of reducing carbohydrate in shrinking sugar levels, so I thought I would give it a go.

It was and still is a tough process and a challenge every day, but reducing my carb intake has helped me lose 4 stone and drop my sugar levels significantly.  I want to stress that I have said reducing and not cutting out completely. Removing one food group from your diet is not healthy and will not help you long term

So I hope you join me as I carry on with my journey and I share my experiences with you
