When I first started to reduce my carbohydrate intake it was with an aim to lose weight and hopefully reduce my sugar levels. What an absolute minefield it was though! Food that I had barely paid attention to in the past, I found contained carbs, and lots of them! A simple banana can contain at least 10 carbs, depending on its size. This may not seem much but when you are restricted to 130-150 carbs per day, it soon mounts up. I began to learn ways of making sure that I chose food with as low a carb content as possible. For example, I now eat gluten free bread which I have found that in some cases, e.g. Warburton’s, contains less carbs than regular bread. My absolute saviour has been BFree high protein wraps. Low in carbs, they are delicious and really filling.
Perhaps the thing I struggle the most with is sweet things. But, cutting down on carbs should not mean giving up sweet treats completely. Like anything, moderation is the key but what happens when you’ve already eaten about 130 carbs worth of food that day, but you crave something with a cup of tea? Well, I’ve discovered the company Fitbakes. Before I go any further, I just want to stress that I have not been paid in any way to advertise or recommend their products. I have genuinely found them so delicious and a godsend in times of sugar desperation. Their range covers wraps and breads, millionaire caramel cakes to low carb vanilla cookies. I also want to put a shout out to Heylo too. Lovely chocolate brownies!
Happy eating!
